About

I am a board-certified pulmonologist and intensivist with a strong academic foundation and a commitment to advancing care in pulmonary and critical care medicine through clinical excellence, medical education, and research. After completing my internal medicine residency at Detroit Medical Center and fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Henry Ford Health System, I served as Assistant Professor and Core Faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I led educational efforts in critical care echocardiography.

My clinical interests include sarcoidosis, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and critical care echocardiography. I hold the ELSO Adult ECMO Practitioner Certification. I have contributed to curriculum development and hands-on training workshops for residents and fellows for critical care echocardiography. My research has focused on optimizing care in sepsis, shock, and advanced pulmonary disorders, with publications in CHEST, J Intensive Care Medicine, and Annals of the ATS. I have also been recognized with several awards, including the Star Research Award from SCCM and the Outstanding Poster Award at the CHEST Annual Meeting.

At UCLA, I am excited to bring my passion for education, innovation, and high-quality patient care to an institution committed to academic and clinical excellence. I remain deeply invested in mentoring trainees, improving quality of care, and advancing equitable and trustworthy AI implementation in healthcare through collaborations such as CHAI.

Research

Interests

My research is centered on improving outcomes in critically ill patients through evidence-based innovations in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Key areas of interest include:

  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO): Clinical optimization, patient selection, and outcomes in adult ECMO support. I am particularly interested in applying predictive analytics to identify high-risk phenotypes and guide individualized therapy.

  • Critical Care Pharmacotherapy & Hemodynamics: Investigating the impact of weight-based vasopressor dosing and fluid responsiveness on mortality in septic shock and other ICU syndromes.

  • Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD): Characterizing clinical phenotypes and long-term outcomes, with a focus on autoimmune-associated ILD such as Sjögren’s and IgG4-related disease.

  • Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT): Therapeutic use of targeted agents such as bevacizumab for refractory epistaxis and GI bleeding, and interdisciplinary approaches to diagnosis and care.

  • Point-of-Care Ultrasound and Critical Care Echocardiography: Advancing bedside diagnostics through structured POCUS curricula, quality assurance, and integration of ultrasound into decision-making in the ICU.

  • Healthcare AI & Safety: As a member of the Collaboration for Health AI (CHAI), I am engaged in developing frameworks for safe, trustworthy implementation of machine learning tools in acute care settings.
