Dr. Linda Liau honored with lifetime achievement award in medicine

Dr. Linda Liau is the chair of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, director of the UCLA Brain Tumor Program and an investigator in the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Linda Liau, professor and chair of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, has received the J.E. Wallace Sterling Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicine from the Stanford Medicine Alumni Association in recognition of her exceptional contributions to medicine and the biosciences.

Liau, an internationally renowned physician-scientist and graduate of the Stanford School of Medicine, has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for patients with brain cancer. Her pioneering research has advanced the development of innovative immunotherapy approaches for glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive primary brain malignancies. This work has laid the foundation for novel treatment strategies that harness the immune system to fight tumors, offering renewed hope for patients facing a disease long regarded as untreatable.

In addition to her scientific achievements, Liau sits on the board of directors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. She was the first woman to chair the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has served on the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Cancer Institute as well as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neuro-Oncology. She is an elected member of Academia Sinica and the National Academy of Medicine.

Liau is also an investigator in the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, director of the UCLA Brain Tumor Program, and director of the NCI-funded UCLA Brain Cancer SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence)
