About
Kailee Gaffny is a Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Nurse and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. She provides in person care at UCLA’s Santa Monica Gonda Diabetes Center and is available via telehealth.
Kailee has been at UCLA’s Endocrinology and Gonda Diabetes Center since 2018 helping with adult diabetes care and education for those with varying types of diabetes; prediabetes, type 1, type 2, gestational, cystic fibrosis related diabetes, secondary, and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults. Kailee leads a support group every other month for those adults living with type 1 diabetes.
Originally from Chicago, Kailee moved out to California to earn her first bachelor’s degree in psychology from Chapman University in 2006 with the hopes of providing care to children living with chronic conditions. During an internship she was exposed to the role of a certified diabetes educator and thought that this role would provide more opportunity to positively influence those living with diabetes. Kailee went on to pursue her career in nursing. She graduated from the accelerated bachelor’s in nursing program at Mount St. Mary’s College in 2008. She started her career as a registered nurse on the pediatric unit at UCLA’s Santa Monica Hospital. After 3 years of inpatient care, she found an opportunity to provide diabetes education at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. After 7 years of providing diabetes education to children and families of those with children living with diabetes, she wanted to expand her care to adults living with diabetes.
Kailee is a passionate, empathetic, kind and patient educator. Her goal is to help the patient and family find balance with their medications, foods, exercise, travel, etc. to help fit diabetes into their life. She truly believes diabetes should not get in your way of achieving your life and health goals. Kailee is experienced with trainings on continuous glucose monitors, smart pens, insulin patches and insulin pumps.
During her free time she enjoys spending time with her kids, taking trips with her family and friends, going to the beach and playing softball.
