UCLA Health once again earns top honors in annual Best Hospitals rankings

Performance reflects continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation by physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
UCLA Health once again placed #1 in both California and Los Angeles* in the annual rankings of excellence in hospital-based patient care released on July 28, 2025, by U.S. News & World Report.
In addition, UCLA Health earned a spot on the publication’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll for the 36th consecutive year. This year, the distinction was reserved for only 20 hospitals or health systems among more than 4,400 evaluated across 15 medical specialties and 22 procedures and conditions. UCLA Health has appeared on the national honor roll continuously since the annual assessment debuted in 1990.
Ten UCLA Heath specialties placed in the top 10. They are: ear, nose and throat (#2); pulmonology and lung surgery (#4); diabetes and endocrinology (#5); ophthalmology (#5); psychiatry (#5); urology (#7); geriatrics (#7); gastroenterology/gastrointestinal surgery (#8); rheumatology (#8) and orthopedics (#10).
UCLA Health was designated as high performing in all 22 procedures and conditions that were evaluated. Among them were hip and knee replacements, various cancers, diabetes, heart conditions and stroke.
UCLA Health consistently performs well in a variety of other assessments of quality and safety conducted by independent publications, accreditation bodies, advocacy groups and disease-specific organizations using a wide range of methodologies.
“UCLA Health’s sustained excellence in patient care is a testament to the commitment, dedication and expertise of our physicians, nurses and the entire team of health care professionals,” said Johnese Spisso, president of UCLA Health and CEO of the UCLA Hospital System. “Every day, our physicians and staff work together to offer the highest quality, compassionate care and the latest innovative treatments that provide the best outcomes to patients.”
The U.S. News & World Report analysis considers objective measures such as clinical outcomes, preventable complications and level of nursing care. Detailed methodologies for the medical specialties rankings and the procedures and conditions ratings are available on the publication’s website.
UCLA Health offers an integrated network of primary and specialty care services at more than 280 clinics across Southern California and the Central Coast and at five medical centers and hospitals — Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and UCLA West Valley Medical Center.
