Surgical Critical Care
The Program for Surgical Critical Care Medicine at UCLA is a multidisciplinary effort, which involves faculty from the Department of Surgery and the Department of Anesthesiology. During the last couple of decades, the field of critical care medicine has matured greatly, partially because of the introduction of new monitoring and diagnostic tools and new therapeutic agents, but mostly because of the development of a robust body of evidence, regarding best practices for mechanical ventilation, packed red blood cell transfusion, control of blood glucose concentration, intravenous fluid administration and many other aspects of contemporary ICU care. Our Surgical Critical Care Faculty provide state-of-the-art attending-level supervision of the care of surgical ICU patients at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on a "7 X 24" basis.
