Michael Lauria, PhD
Assistant Professor-in-Residence
Dr. Michael Lauria, an Assistant Professor-in-Residence in Radiation Oncology, earned his BS degree in Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University in 2017. In 2022, he completed his PhD in the Physics and Biology in Medicine program at UCLA. His PhD work under Dr. Low focused on fast-helical, free-breathing CT and its potential applications within radiotherapy and pulmonology, including motion compensation in cone-beam CT reconstruction, ventilation mapping, and biomechanical modeling. Dr. Lauria then completed his Medical Physics Residency training at UCLA in 2024.
Dr. Lauria’s primary research interests are focused on extending his dissertation research into new avenues, namely in creating an MRI-based platform for his motion modeling work. He also has interests in global healthcare, collaborating with organizations through the AAPM to improve radiation oncology care in low- or middle-income countries (LMICs). His clinical interests include stereotactic radiosurgery planning, MR simulation, and adaptive radiotherapy.
