Shannon Fang (she/her/hers) grew up in Kansas City and studied biology and education at Duke University, where she was active in student journalism and global health advocacy. After college, she returned to the Midwest for medical school at Case Western Reserve University, further developing interests in health humanities, medical education, and advocacy. Shannon was drawn to Med-Peds because of the opportunity to care for complex patients across their lifetime and build lifelong relationships. She was particularly inspired by the gaps in care she observed during transitions from pediatric to adult providers.

UCLA stood out to her for its strong Med-Peds identity, commitment to resident support, and opportunities to explore her passions. She’s excited to be closer to family in sunny LA and eat through the city’s diverse food scene. At UCLA, Shannon plans to be involved in the medical education pathway, global health experiences, and pediatric advocacy. Her evolving career interests include transitions of care, adolescent medicine, hematology/oncology, and allergy/immunology.

Outside the hospital, Shannon enjoys crocheting amigurumi for friends, playing with her two cats, watching K-dramas, and exploring great food and coffee.
