Brandon Chu, MD, MPH

Brandon (he/him/his) is a San Francisco Bay Area native. His early interest in health disparities and the social determinants of health led him to UC Berkeley, where he earned both his BA in Public Health and his MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. He then crossed the Bay to attend medical school at UCSF, where he expanded his interests to include medical education, immigrant health advocacy, and quality improvement.

Brandon chose Med-Peds because he values the opportunity to care for both children and adults, particularly patients with complex medical and social needs as they transition between pediatric and adult care.

From the start, UCLA stood out to him for its exceptional clinical training, collaborative culture, and opportunity to care for an incredibly diverse patient population in Los Angeles. He was also drawn to the many opportunities to pursue his interests in research, quality improvement, and medical education alongside his clinical training.

During residency, he plans to become more involved with clinical informatics, global health work, and using epidemiological and data-driven approaches to identify opportunities to improve care for patients across the lifespan.

Outside the hospital, Brandon enjoys exploring his new home, whether it’s discovering new restaurants and neighborhoods, finding new hiking trails, or taking photographs along the way. He loves that, in LA, a free afternoon can mean almost anything — from learning to surf to exploring one of the city’s many art museums to catching a last-minute concert. At home, however, he can reliably be found watching The West Wing for the fifteenth time.
