Dr. Marco Hidalgo is a clinician-investigator whose research in behavioral health has contributed to national public health efforts to reduce HIV incidence and improve health outcomes among diverse communities. Since 2013, Dr. Hidalgo has focused on advancing developmentally informed practices in mental and behavioral healthcare for adolescents and adults in multidisciplinary clinical settings.
Dr. Hidalgo completed doctoral training in clinical psychology at DePaul University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His NIH-funded research explores health and developmental outcomes across a range of youth populations, with particular interest in behavioral health, stress resilience, and risk prevention.
Dr. Hidalgo provides psychological care at UCLA within interdisciplinary care teams supporting adolescents and adults navigating complex developmental, psychosocial, and emotional concerns.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Hidalgo co-founded a specialized care program for youth with complex developmental trajectories at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, while on faculty at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. He later served as faculty at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/USC before joining the UCLA Department of Medicine in 2021.
Dr. Hidalgo is committed to improving clinical training and academic medicine through initiatives focused on community outreach, workforce development, and equitable access to care. He has led department-wide efforts to improve representation in research participation and has developed and delivered trainings on professionalism and evidence-based decision-making in clinical education.
