Scientific Interests
Dr. Lawson uses biophysical and biochemical methods to study the regulation of eukaryotic protein synthesis and its associated quality control. He is particuarly interested in understanding the roles of translation reinitiation factors MCT-1 and DENR in both health and disease. A detailed understanding of how these reinitiation factors mediate protein synthesis would help to explain why their overexpression drives oncogenesis, potentially setting the stage for novel therapeutics.
