Supervisors: Rebecca Pittenger, LCSW #60934 & Valentina Ogaryan, PhD, Clinical Psychologist PSY #30248

Responsibilities

As a Social Work Intern at the Simms/Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology, I provide psychosocial support to individuals and families facing the profound challenges of cancer. In close collaboration with a multidisciplinary medical team, I focus on evidence-based interventions tailored to each client's values, culture, and goals of care. I am also committed to connecting clients with essential community resources to ensure continuity across the cancer care continuum. I’m passionate about cultivating a compassionate, empowering environment that helps people navigate the emotional, relational, and existential complexities of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Professional Experience

I hold a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, with a minor in Global Health. I am currently pursuing a Master of Social Welfare at UCLA with a concentration in Health & Mental Health Across the Lifespan

In my previous experience as a social worker for Harbor-UCLA’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, I collaborated with interdisciplinary medical teams to advocate for client needs, align treatment plans with families, provide education about new diagnoses, and connect clients to resources. I've also contributed to oncology research in developing early detection and improving targeted treatments at the MT Group, further deepening my understanding of the complexity of the biological impacts of cancer and treatment. Additionally, at Hillview Mental Health Center, I gained experience in case management and mental health counseling for adults experiencing severe mental health issues and other major life challenges. These experiences have furthered my understanding of a strengths-based approach to care that centers the individual, their families, and their values.

Personal Interests

Outside of the clinical setting, I am passionate about making and moving. I recharge through rock climbing, backpacking, skiing, and being in nature. My creative outlets include cooking, painting, crocheting, sewing, and just about any other form of crafting.
