Lindsay Quiring, LCSW

Clinical Oncology Social Worker

Responsibilities

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker on the UCLA Simms/Mann team, I provide psychosocial services that support those impacted by the complexities of a cancer diagnosis. Primarily serving individuals residing in San Luis Obispo County, I'm dedicated to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care that includes assessments, individual counseling, and connections to community resources for patients and their loved ones.

Training and Professional Experience

I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Southern California (USC) after transferring from Mills College. After completing my undergraduate studies, I remained at USC to obtain my Master of Social Work in 2019. During graduate school, my internship experiences included placements with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and the National Foster Youth Institute. These experiences fueled my passion for empowering individuals navigating unexpected, significant life changes. Since earning my MSW, my professional work has primarily focused on serving communities affected by trauma, often involving system involvement in the child welfare and behavioral health fields.

After graduation, I worked as an emergency response social worker for Los Angeles County before moving to the Central Valley, where I gained experience as an associate behavioral health clinician at two different Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Programs. In 2022, I relocated to San Luis Obispo County to work as an associate behavioral health clinician at the county’s youth substance use treatment program. I'm excited to now be part of the amazing team at the Simms/Mann Center within UCLA Health. I come to the oncology field with a deep desire to serve my community and advocate for the needs of those impacted by cancer.

I also have experience as a social work consultant and board member. I serve as a consultant for agencies such as the National Foster Youth Institute and am a board member for Nyasha's Promise, a New York–based nonprofit supporting pregnant women experiencing homelessness. These roles have allowed me to engage in mental health first aid, strategic planning, program development and evaluation, and challenging systemic inequities.

Personal Interests

Whenever I have the opportunity, you'll find me spending time with loved ones, listening to as much music as I can, and traveling. I live in San Luis Obispo County with my loving life partner and my assertive yet humorous cat. Together, the three of us enjoy taking neighborhood walks and watching sunsets. I also enjoy discovering a new artist or music album each week, snowboarding in the winter, journaling, and playing board games.
