Adolescent/Young Adult Clinical Social Worker

Responsibilities

As a licensed clinical social worker at the Simms/Mann Center, I am dedicated to helping patients and their loved ones navigate challenges that come with an oncology diagnosis. My role within the adolescent and young adult population focuses on utilizing expertise of the specific psychosocial stressors of this age group to create a safe space, ensuring that our patients and families feel heard and supported. I provide compassionate and trauma informed care by building connections with patients and their families through individual therapy and referrals to resources.

I am incredibly grateful to be part of the Simms/Mann Center, where I have the privilege of working alongside such skilled and compassionate clinicians. The supportive environment continuously inspires me to enhance my professional growth and drives my commitment to providing the highest level of care possible to our patients and families.

Training and Professional Experience

I completed my bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside. I then went right to graduate school and earned my Master of Social Work at Loma Linda University. During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to complete two internships that greatly contributed to my professional growth. My first internship was at an alternative high school, where I worked closely with students through individual counseling, group support, and collaboration with their teachers to achieve the goal of reintegration into their home schools following completion of programming. In my second internship, I worked at Loma Linda Medical Center in both palliative care, and the cardiothoracic intensive care unit where I provided support to patients and families navigating chronic and advanced illness. Throughout both internships and my college classes, I was fortunate to learn from and collaborate with many incredible social workers, whose guidance and experience helped shape my approach to the field.

I began my professional career as an inpatient social worker in gastroenterology at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where I supported pediatric patients and their families during hospitalization. Following this experience, I transitioned to UCLA, where I took on a new role as a clinical social worker in pediatrics. In this capacity, I worked both inpatient and outpatient with children undergoing multi-visceral transplant procedures and those admitted for general hospital care. In both of these roles, I provided counseling, emotional support, connection to resources, and advocacy to help families navigate challenges associated with hospital stays, new diagnoses, chronic illness, and medical treatment.

Personal Interests

I enjoy spending time with friends and family and exploring new places around Los Angeles. I like being outside, watching sports, and playing softball. I also love relaxing at home with my two dogs, Koa and Sulley, and my cat, Rebel.
