Mental well-being is at the heart of the whole-person cancer care provided by the Simms/Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology.
That focus was center stage – or, more accurately, center court – recently, as the Simms/Mann Center Ambassador Board partnered with the Los Angeles Lakers and community supporters to discuss the Center’s mental wellness programs and to tour the UCLA Health Training Center, the Lakers training facility in El Segundo.
In addition to seeing the players’ lounge and workout room, guests got a chance to meet Lakers legend and NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy and try their hand at shooting hoops on a professional court.

They also got to learn about the importance of mental health care along the cancer journey for patients and their families.
The Simms/Mann Center’s free comprehensive mental health services include guiding patients in wellness practices to incorporate into their healing; helping patients process their emotions at the time of diagnosis, during treatment and into recovery; and providing support for loved ones after a cancer diagnosis.
One-on-one counseling is also available, along with a broad range of support groups, spiritual care and educational programs to guide patients and their loved ones.
The Simms/Mann Center Ambassador Board raises community awareness and funding for the Simms/Mann Center and its programs. For more information on the Ambassador Board, contact Maeve Sullivan at 310-742-5977 or [email protected].
