Scientific Interests

Dr. Philip Scumpia is particularly interested in how immune surveillance of the skin restrains skin carcinogenesis. As a dermatologist and dermatopathologist, his clinical interests include squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma, particularly in immunosuppressed organ transplant recipients who develop these cutaneous malignancies at a higher rate. As a researcher, his interests include identifying how cutaneous malignancies develop in organ transplant recipients and using immunoprofiling, transcriptional analysis and gene regulation principles to identify novel therapeutics that can treat cutaneous malignancies.
